Introduction

Located in Tibet, the Mount Kailash area is a sacred and revered area for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Bonpas. In the middle of this area lies Mount Kailash, believed to be the Hindu abode of Lord Shiva and representing the cosmic axis in Buddhist cosmology. Thousands of pilgrims visit this place every year to perform kora, circumambulation around Mount Kailash. The journey is physically demanding but spiritually rewarding and devotees seek blessings and enlightenment along the way. The region is also home to stunning natural landscapes, including pristine lakes such as Lake Manasarovar and diverse wildlife. Efforts are being made to protect this unique ecosystem while allowing pilgrims to continue their spiritual practices in this ancient and mystical environment.
