Pikey Peak Trek is a hidden treasure in Nepal, providing a magical experience for adventurers looking for both thrill and peace. Situated in the Solukhumbu region, this trek is not just a physical test; it is a voyage through culture and stunning landscapes. At 4,065 meters (13,335 feet), Pikey Peak is often overshadowed by Everest and Annapurna, yet it offers incredible natural beauty and cultural depth. The less crowded path allows hikers to relish a serene atmosphere and engage with local communities.
The trek typically spans 14 days, depending on your speed. The plan includes arriving in Kathmandu, driving to Jiri, trekking to Bhandar, reaching Pikey Base Camp, ascending Pikey Peak, and returning to Jiri and Kathmandu.
The trek is moderately tough but suitable for beginners with reasonable fitness. Proper acclimatization and preparation are crucial. Essential gear includes sturdy trekking shoes, a warm sleeping bag, layered clothing, a reliable backpack, and trekking poles. A first aid kit and personal medications are also advisable. It is wise to hire a local guide for cultural insights and safety.

Itinerary

  • 1

    Arrive Kathmandu, reception and transfer to hotel. PM welcome dinner – hotel.

    Upon arrival in Kathmandu, participants will be warmly welcomed and escorted to their hotel where they will have the opportunity to rest en route. In the evening, a welcome dinner will be held at the hotel, giving guests an opportunity to mingle and engage, setting the tone for the days ahead.

    Meet the team, briefing, preparation and shopping – hotel.

    The second day will start with an expedition team meeting where all members will introduce themselves and discuss the itinerary in detail. This briefing will include basic information about the trek, safety protocols and what to expect during the trip. Participants will also have time to prepare for the trek, which may include purchasing necessary supplies or equipment so that everyone is well-equipped for the adventure.

    By AC coach to Dhap (2,932m), approximately 8 hrs with breaks – lodge.

    The group will embark on the journey by boarding an air-conditioned bus bound for Dhap, located at an altitude of 2,932 meters. This part of the journey should take approximately eight hours, including breaks for refreshments and rest. Upon arrival at Dhap, participants check into a comfortable lodge and are ready to go trekking.

    Trek to Jhapre (2,820m) with lunch at Sigane, 4/5 hrs – lodge.

    The trek begins as the group heads to Jhapre, which lies at an altitude of 2,820 meters. The trek will include a lunch stop at Sigane and is estimated to take about four to five hours. After reaching Jhapre, the group settles in a hut where they rest for the evening.

    Trek to Bhulbhule (3,500m), arrive for late lunch, 4/5 hrs – lodge.

    On the fifth day, the trekkers will proceed to Bhulbhula which is located at a height of 3500 meters. The team is expected to arrive in time for a late lunch after trekking for approximately four to five hours. Accommodation for the night will be provided in a lodge, which will allow participants to recharge their batteries for the next part of their adventure.

    Trek to pikey peak base camp (3,640m), 4/5 hrs - lodge.

    Start the trek to Pikey Peak Base Camp at 3,640 meters which will take around four to five hours. During the trek, participants will enjoy the picturesque beauty of the surrounding landscape and spend the night in a hut at the base camp.

    Acclimatization walk and rest – lodge.

    Day seven will be focused on acclimatization and rest. Participants will be able to explore their surroundings at a leisurely pace, which is crucial for altitude acclimatization. The cottage will serve as a base for them to rest and regenerate.

    Early start, ascend Pikey Peak (4,065m) for sunrise over Everest, return for breakfast, 3 hrs. Then trek to Jase Bhanjyang (3,550m), 3/4 hrs – lodge.

    An early start is planned for the eighth day when the group climbs Pikey Peak to a height of 4065 meters. The trek is designed to provide breathtaking views of the sunrise over Mount Everest, the summit of the journey. After enjoying this spectacular view, the group will return to the lodge for breakfast and then proceed to Jas Bhanjyang, which is at an altitude of 3,550 meters. This trek will take approximately three to four hours.

    Descend to Junbesi (2,675m), 4/5 hrs – lodge.

    The ninth day includes the descent to Junbesi, which is located at an altitude of 2,675 meters. This hike takes about four to five hours and upon arrival, the group settles into a lodge for the night.

    Visit Hillary school and Thupten Chholing monastery (2,715 m), 4/5 hrs - lodge.

    Participants visit Hillary School and Thupten Chholing Monastery, located at an altitude of 2,715 meters. This excursion will take approximately four to five hours and will allow the group to engage with the local culture and learn more about the educational initiatives supported by Sir Edmund Hillary. The group will return to their lodge for accommodation.

    Trek to Phaplu (2,413m) for lunch then visit monastery - lodge.

    The trek will continue on the eleventh day and lead to Phaplu at 2,413 meters for lunch. Afterwards, the participants will have the opportunity to visit the local monastery and thus enrich their cultural experience. The group will spend the night in the lodge and reflect on their experiences of the day.

    Flight to Kathmandu – hotel.

    A flight back to Kathmandu is scheduled, which means a return to the bustling capital. Upon arrival, participants check into their hotel and end the day with plenty to think about after their trekking adventure.

  • 13

    Guided sightseeing or free day – hotel.

    Day 13 can be spent exploring the historical and cultural sites of Kathmandu with a guide or enjoy a free day for personal sightseeing. Each of these options provides an excellent opportunity to soak up the vibrant atmosphere of the city. We will spend the evening at the hotel.

  • 14

    Depart Kathmandu.

    The final day will include departure from Kathmandu, ending an unforgettable trip. Participants will head to the airport to continue their journey or return home, taking with them the experiences and memories gathered during this unique expedition.
