ARRIVE PARO – THIMPHU
The path takes a flight to the left, allowing a view of Mt. Everest, another famous Himalayan mountain, and ends with lunch at a hotel and an overnight stay in Paro.
2PARO - SIGHT SEEING
Visit Drugyal Dzong, a ruined forest 16 kilometers from Paro where Bhutan defeated Tibetan invasions. See Mount Jhomolhari and Kyichu Lhakhang, a Buddhist temple built by King Songtsen Gompo in 659 AD. Visit the National Museum, Paro Rimpong Dzong Watchtower, built in 1646. Explore Paro Rimpong Dzong and its ancient bridge. Overnight at a hotel in Paro.
3PARO – A DAY EXCURSION TO TAKTSHANG MONASTERY
Visit the Taktsang Monastery, a 4,000-foot-tall vertical granite cliff located near the town of Paro. It is believed to be the second Buddha in Bhutan, which landed on a flying tigress in the 8th century. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Taktsang Cafe.
4PARO - A DAY EXCURSION TO HAA VALLEY AND DRIVE BACK VIA CHELLELA PASS
Visit Haa Valley, a recently opened tourist town, drive back to Chellela Pass, enjoy snowy mountains, rhododendron blossom, picnic lunch, walk to Chellela Monastery and overnight at Paro Hotel.
5PARO – THIMPHU
The itinerary includes a visit to Simtokha Dzong, one of Bhutan's oldest forts, Tashichho Dzong, and the Chorten Memorial in Thimphu. The day includes a visit to the Mini Zoo, Sangeygang, Handicrafts and Painting School, Handicraft Shop and the National Library. The trip ends with an overnight stay at a hotel in Thimphu. The itinerary includes visits to convent schools, government ministries, royal offices and the National Library.
6THIMPHU – TRONGSA
Explore Trongsa after driving through the Dochula Pass and enjoy stunning views of the snow-capped mountains of the Eastern Himalayas and the Gasa Dzong. Depart Wangdue Phodrang and climb the Pelela Pass that separates the western regions for lunch in Chendebji. Overnight at Trongsa Hotel.
7TRONGSA – BUMTHANG
Visit Trong Dzong, Bhutan's largest ancestral home, built by Chogyel Minjur Tenpa in 1648. Visit the towns of Ta Dzong and Trongsa. The road to Bumthang valley through the Yutla pass, a beautiful road. Enjoy hospitality in the form of houses or guesthouses in Bumthang. Overnight at the Bumthan guesthouse.
8BUMTHANG - SIGHT SEEING
Visit Bumthang village, drive through the valley, visit Jambay Lhakhang, Kurje Lhakhang, Tamshing Lhakhang, Kuenshu Lhakhang, lunch, Jakar Dzong, and witness the burning of Tsho, then overnight at hotel in Bumthang.
9BUMTHANG – MONGAR
After breakfast, drive to Mongar, enjoy a packed lunch, drive through Bumthang, explore the Ura Valley and see typical Bhutanese farms before staying overnight at a hotel in Mongar.
10MONGAR – TRASHIGANG
After breakfast visit Mongar Dzong, a small dzong from 1953 with 50-60 monks including young boys. Drive to Trashigang, a high outcrop built in 1667 by Mingyru Tenpa, the third governor of Bhutan. Take pictures with nomadic herders and visit a nearby village. Overnight in a camp or on a farm.
11TRASHIGANG – A DAY EXCURSION TO KHALING
Early morning drive to Khaling, visit Khaling Women Weaving Center. Overnight: Camping or farm.
12TRASHIGANG – MONGAR
Drive to Gom Kora, the sacred meditation place of Guru Padmasamca where he left his body imprint on the rock, visit the Chorten and continue to Mongar for overnight stay.
13MONGAR – BUMTHANG
Breakfast, transfer to Bumtang, packed lunch, visit to Wangdicholing Palace, city walk, dinner and overnight at a Bhutanese farmhouse and overnight at a guest house.
14BUMTHANG – GANGTEY VALLEY
Drive to Gangtey valley which takes around 5 hours, it is a beautiful valley situated at an altitude of 3000m, this valley has opened its route very recently. In winter, it is possible to see an endangered species of bird (the whooping crane). Lunch at Phubjikha. Overnight: Hotel in the Gangtey Valley.
15GANGTEY VALLEY – PARO
Drive to Paro via Punakha and Punakha Dzong, Je Khenpa's beautiful winter residence and district administration office. Lunch at Dochula Pass, then transfer to Paro, overnight at hotel.
16PARO – PARO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Early morning drive to Paro International Airport and your Bhutanese friends from Makalu Adventure will accompany you to see you on your way back.
