1
Arrive at Kathmandu [1345m/4411ft] and transfer to Hotel
You land in Kathmandu at 1,345 meters or 4,411 feet above sea level. A driver waits to take you straight to your hotel. This city sits in a valley ringed by hills. It mixes old temples with busy streets. Rest up after the long flight.
2Sightseeing Kathmandu & Climbing preparations
Spend the day touring key spots in Kathmandu. Visit sites like the Pashupatinath Temple, where Hindus pray by the Bagmati River, or the ancient Swayambhunath Stupa, a hilltop spot with prayer flags and monkey troops. These tours help you soak in Nepal's culture before the climb. In the afternoon, check your gear. Pack warm clothes, boots, and ice axes. Guides review the plan. This prep cuts risks on the mountain.
3Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla [2800m/9184ft] & Trek to Phakding [2640m/8659ft]
Catch an early flight from Kathmandu to Lukla at 2,800 meters or 9,184 feet. The short hop offers stunning views of peaks and green valleys. Planes are small, so brace for a bumpy ride due to mountain winds. From Lukla's airstrip, start your trek to Phakding at 2,640 meters or 8,659 feet. The path follows the Dudh Koshi River. Cross suspension bridges over rushing water. Stone houses dot the trail. It's about 3 to 4 hours of easy walking to ease into the altitude.
4Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar [3440m/11283ft]
Head out from Phakding toward Namche Bazaar at 3,440 meters or 11,283 feet. The trail climbs steadily through pine forests and Sherpa villages. Watch for yaks carrying loads. You'll pass prayer wheels and mani stones carved with sacred words. The air thins, so take breaks. Namche sits on a horseshoe-shaped hill. It's a hub with bakeries, shops, and even a small museum on Everest climbers. Reach there in 5 to 6 hours.
5Rest day at Namche Bazaar â For Acclimatization
Take a full rest day in Namche Bazaar to adjust to the height. Altitude sickness can hit fast above 3,000 metersâsymptoms like headaches or nausea. Walk short loops to nearby ridges for views of Everest on clear days. Drink plenty of water. Eat light meals with carbs. This step builds your body's oxygen use. Many trekkers feel stronger after.
6Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche [3867m/12683ft]
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche at 3,867 meters or 12,683 feet. The path drops into a valley, then rises sharply. Cross the Dudh Koshi on a high bridge. Rhododendron bushes line the way in spring. Tyangboche holds a famous monastery with golden roofs. Monks chant at dawn. Stay in lodges with mountain vistas. It's a 5 to 7 hour push.
7Trek from Tyangboche to Dingboche [4260m/13972ft]
Push on from Tyangboche to Dingboche at 4,260 meters or 13,972 feet. The landscape turns drier, with fewer trees and more scrub. Pass Imja Valley views. Stone walls protect fields of potatoes. Dingboche feels remote, with crisp air and starry nights. Hike time runs 5 to 6 hours. Your body adapts more each day.
8Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche [4930m/16170ft]
Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche at 4,930 meters or 16,170 feet. The trail skirts morainesâbig piles of rock and ice from glaciers. See memorials for climbers who lost their lives. The path steepens near the top. Lobuche has basic teahouses for warm tea. Expect 4 to 5 hours, but cold winds pick up.
9Trek from Lobuche to Nuptse Base Camp [5230m/17154ft]
Move from Lobuche to Nuptse Base Camp at 5,230 meters or 17,154 feet. This short trek gains height quickly. Follow the Khumbu Glacier's edge, where ice cracks and shifts. Set up tents at camp. Porters haul supplies. Sherpas, local experts in high peaks, share tips on weather signs. You're now in climbing zone.
10-34Climbing Period Mt Nuptse [7861m/25784ft] and back to Base Camp
This long stretch focuses on climbing Mount Nuptse, which tops 7,861 meters or 25,784 feet. Start with training runs to higher camps. Fix ropes on steep faces. Face ice walls and snow fields. Weather can trap you for daysâblizzards hit often. Rotate summit pushes with rest at base camp. Guides watch for avalanches. Return to base after each try. The peak overlooks Everest, but Nuptse demands skill on its rocky south face. Patience rules here; most teams need weeks.
35Trek from Nuptse Base Camp to Lobuche
Trek back from Nuptse Base Camp to Lobuche. Your legs ache from the climb, but downhill feels good. The glacier path seems shorter now. Rest in a lodge. Reflect on the views you chased.
36Trek from Lobuche to Pangboche [3930m/12890ft]
Descend from Lobuche to Pangboche at 3,930 meters or 12,890 feet. The trail winds past forests again. Breathe easier at lower height. Pangboche has an old monastery with relics. It's 6 to 7 hours, with chances to spot birds like Himalayan monals.
37Trek from Pangboche to Namche Bazaar
Trek from Pangboche to Namche Bazaar. Revisit familiar spots. Shop for souvenirs if energy allows. The hill climb feels less tough on the way down. Arrive by afternoon.
38Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla
Walk from Namche Bazaar to Lukla. It's mostly downhill, about 6 hours. Say goodbyes to trail friends. Lukla's bustle builds as you near the end.
39Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu
Fly from Lukla back to Kathmandu. Morning flights work best to dodge clouds. Settle into city life once more.
40Leisure Day at Kathmandu
