Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, the team from Makalu Adventure will be there to greet you and take you to your hotel. After settling in, you can relax for a bit before joining us for a Welcome Dinner at Thamel in the evening.
2-3Preparation, Briefings, last-minute shopping, and permit formalities
Our journey to Mt. Kanchenjunga will commence tomorrow. Today, we will convene at the Makalu Adventure Office with your designated Team Leaders. The Team Leader will provide a detailed briefing regarding the upcoming adventure to Mt. Kanchenjunga. If necessary, you may partake in any last-minute shopping for your expedition. We will complete all permit formalities and prepare our gear for the exciting Kanchenjunga Expedition ahead.
4Fly to Bhadrapur; Drive to Ilam Bazaar, Overnight at Lodge
Today, our plan is to depart from Kathmandu airport and head towards Bhadrapur Airport at the earliest convenience. Once we arrive in Bhadrapur, our next destination will be Ilam Bazar. This charming and historic local market is located in Eastern Nepal and offers a captivating experience. We will spend some time exploring the vibrant Ilam Bazaar before making our way to the hotel for a comfortable stay.
5Drive to Jorpul (9-10 Hrs.) via Phidim
After having breakfast this morning, we will embark on a journey to Jorpul. The drive typically lasts around 9-10 hours. Once we arrive, we will proceed to check into our Lodge.
6Trek to Khebang (1740m-5 Hrs.)
Today we will have a 5 hrs. trek to Khebang situated at an altitude of 1740m.
7Trek to Yamphudin (2070m-7 Hrs.)
Today we will have a 7 hrs. trek to Yamphudin situated at an altitude of 2070m.
8Trek to Torongdin (2995m-11 Hrs.)
Today we will have a trek to Torongdin that is situated at an altitude of 2995m. It will take 10-11 hrs. for this trek.
9Trek to Tseram (3870m-4 Hrs.)
Trekking to Tseram at 3870m can be completed in approximately 4 hours. This moderate trek offers stunning views and a gradual ascent, making it accessible to many trekkers. The journey to Tseram allows trekkers to experience the beauty of the Himalayas while enjoying a manageable hike that is suitable for most fitness levels.
10Rest & Acclimatization in Tseram (3870m)
Rest and acclimatization in Tseram are crucial for trekkers. Taking time to acclimate to the high altitude can help prevent altitude sickness. It is recommended to rest and allow the body to adjust to the lower oxygen levels slowly. Staying hydrated and pacing oneself are essential during this period.
11Trek to Ramche (4620m-5 Hrs.), Camping
Trekking to Ramche at 4620m in 5 hours, followed by camping, offers a unique wilderness experience. The challenging ascent rewards trekkers with breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment. Camping in this remote location allows for a deeper connection with nature, providing an opportunity to unwind and recharge away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
12Trek to Middle Camp (4900m-7 Hrs.), Camping
Trekking to Middle Camp at 4900m is a challenging but rewarding experience. The 7-hour journey offers a chance to immerse oneself in the beauty of nature while pushing personal limits. Camping at this altitude can be a test of endurance, yet the breathtaking views and sense of accomplishment make it all worthwhile.
13Trek Kanchenjunga Base camp; establish Advance Base Camp
Trekking to Kanchenjunga Base Camp offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and lush green valleys. Along the way, you encounter diverse cultures of remote mountain villages, adding a rich cultural dimension to the trekking experience.
14-46Climbing period; summit Kanchenjunga (8586m)
During this period, climbers must navigate treacherous terrain, extreme weather conditions, and potential health risks such as altitude sickness. Proper acclimatization is essential to reduce the risk of altitude-related illnesses and ensure a successful summit bid. Additionally, climbers must possess technical climbing skills to tackle steep, icy slopes and navigate crevasses. Teamwork, determination, and careful planning are key factors in reaching the summit safely. Overall, Day 14-46 of the climbing period for Kanchenjunga Summit requires professional expertise, physical fitness, mental strength, and a deep respect for the mountain environment.
47Preparation to return to Kathmandu; Cleanup the Base Camp
After an expedition, returning to Kathmandu requires meticulous planning and organization, including cleaning up Base Camp, disposing of waste, and responsibly transporting equipment and personal belongings. Following Leave No Trace principles and respecting the natural environment is crucial for a pristine environment and demonstrating professionalism in outdoor exploration.
48Trek to Ramche (4620m-9 Hrs.), Lodge/Camping.
The trek to Ramche from Base Camp is a challenging yet rewarding journey through the Himalayas, navigating steep slopes, narrow paths, and lush forests. With stunning views and altitude changes, it requires proper preparation and experienced guides. This unforgettable adventure is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.
49Trek to Torongdin (2995m-7 Hrs.), Lodge
This day we trek to Torongdin from Ramche. In between our trek, we have a beautiful remembrance of our successful trip to Mt. Kanchenjunga
50Trek to Yamphudin (2070m-9 Hrs.), Lodge
Trek to Yamphudin from Torongdin is a 9 hrs. journey. We have a night stay in local lodge.
51Drive to Jorpul (9-10 Hrs.) via Khebang, Lodge
From Yamphudin, after breakfast, we drive to Jorpul via Khebang. This travel is 9-10 hrs. and we stay in local lodge overnight.
52Drive to Birtamod, Jhapa, Lodge.
This day we drive from Jorpul to Birtamod and our stay is there overnight.
53Fly/Drive to Kathmandu, transfer to Hotel
From Birtamod, we move towards Kathmandu either by drive or by our flight. Transfer to our hotel for overnight stay.
54Leisure and shopping, farewell-celebration dinner in the evening.
On your free day in Kathmandu, explore the city's cultural heritage and vibrant city life. Visit historical sites like Durbar Square and Swayambhunath Stupa, indulge in retail therapy at local markets, and enjoy a farewell-celebration dinner at a traditional Nepalese restaurant. This day offers relaxation and cultural immersion.
