MOUNT KANCHENJUNGA EXPEDITION

Expedition Mt. Kanchenjunga takes you to the top of Mount Kanchenjunga (8586 m/28,170 ft); the third highest mountain in the world. Mount Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world after Mount Everest and Mount K2 and is the second highest mountain of Nepal located in the eastern part of Nepal. Mount Kanchenjunga is bounded by the Tamur River to the west, the Lhonak Chu and Jongsang La Pass (6145 m) to the north, and the Teesta River in Sikkim, India to the east.

The name of the mountain "Kanchenjunga" is derived from the Tibetan words "Kanchen" and "Dzonga". "Kanchenjunga" means "Five Treasures of the Great Snow" as it contains five peaks, Kanchenjunga I (8586m), Kanchenjunga West (8505m), Kanchenjunga South (8494m) and Kangbachen (7903m). These treasures represent the five repositories: gold, silver, precious stones, grain, and the holy books of God.

Mt Kanchenjunga treks and expeditions are available from both Nepal and Sikkim. The Kanchenjunga area is one of the remote destinations of Nepal, hence there are relatively less crowded hiking and climbing adventures. Mount Kanchenjunga is one of the sacred mountains worshiped by the locals of Sikkim. This magnificent mountain was first climbed by a British team in 1956.
