MOUNT KANCHENJUNGA EXPEDITION

The Expedition to Mt. Kanchenjunga leads climbers to the summit of Mount Kanchenjunga. It stands at 8586 meters or 28,170 feet. This peak ranks as the third highest mountain on Earth. It follows Mount Everest and K2. In Nepal, it is the second tallest. The mountain sits in the eastern region of Nepal. To the west, the Tamur River borders it. Northward lie the Lhonak Chu and Jongsang La Pass at 6145 meters. The Teesta River marks its eastern edge in Sikkim, India.

The name Kanchenjunga comes from Tibetan terms Kanchen and Dzonga. It translates to Five Treasures of the Great Snow. Five peaks form these treasures. They include Kanchenjunga I at 8586 meters, Kanchenjunga West at 8505 meters, Kanchenjunga South at 8494 meters, and Kangbachen at 7903 meters. Each peak stands for a key store: gold, silver, gems, grain, or holy scriptures.

Treks and climbs to Mt. Kanchenjunga start from Nepal or Sikkim. This area counts as one of Nepal's far-off spots. So, hikes and ascents draw fewer crowds. Locals in Sikkim view Mount Kanchenjunga as a holy site. They honor it with worship. A British team made the first climb in 1956.
