LHOTSE EXPEDITION

The Lhotse Expedition is a challenging and thrilling adventure that takes climbers to the breathtaking heights of the world's fourth highest peak, Lhotse. This expedition requires careful planning, physical endurance and mental toughness as climbers traverse treacherous terrain and extreme weather conditions. With its steep slopes, icy crevasses and unpredictable avalanches, Lhotse presents a huge challenge to even the most experienced climbers.

Mount Lhotse, part of the Everest massif, is the fourth highest mountain in the world, located 3 km south of Mount Everest. It is separated by the southern pass and has three peaks: Lhotse (8,516 m), Middle Lhotse (8,414 m) and Lhotse Shar (8,383 m). The first successful ascent of Lhotse was made on May 18, 1956 by Fritz Luchsinger and Ernst Reiss from Switzerland. A typical pre-monsoon (April to June) attempt, Lhotse shares a base camp and fixed route with teams from Mt. Everest. Those with a full expedition plan will have an experienced Sherpa guide and plenty of supplemental oxygen for the climb.

The journey to the Everest region begins with an exciting flight to Lukla. Trekking from Lukla to Namche Bazaar allows acclimatization before proceeding to Deboche, Dingboche and Lobuche. The highlight is a visit to the famous Tengboche Monastery between Namche and Deboche. The climb to the summit of Lobuche (6,119 m) helps improve skills and further acclimatization before reaching the base camp at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall. Spend 25 days acclimatizing at base camp, rotating to camps 1 and 2, the final ascent includes camp 3 on the Lhotse Face and an assault camp below the last gorge.

The journey to Camp 1, located at an altitude of 5900 m, takes you through a treacherous icefall, which is considered the most dangerous part of the climb. Camp 2, also known as Advanced Base Camp (ABC), is strategically located at the upper end of the Western Cwm, just below the southwest face of Everest, at an altitude of 6,400 m. Continuing the ascent, two more camps are established on the face of Lhotse: Camp 3 in 7200 m and Assault Camp approximately 7850 m. Once all necessary equipment and supplies are in place and the team is fully prepared, they will proceed to ABC and wait for favorable weather conditions.

Once the weather stabilizes, the team will proceed to Camp 3 and then to Assault Camp for the final push to the summit. It is important to note that although there is some flexibility, staying at Assault Camp for more than a few nights is not possible. After successfully reaching the summit, the team descends to ABC to rest and recover before traveling back to Base Camp (BC). From BC they will trek to Lukla followed by a return flight to Kathmandu. This expedition is suitable for individuals who have solid mountaineering skills, a proven ability to handle high altitudes and a high level of fitness and motivation.
