PUNAKHA DROMCHOE FESTIVAL BHUTAN

The Punakha Dromchoe is a vibrant festival held annually in the Punakha Valley of Bhutan, a symbol of Bhutanese culture, spirituality and community. It was founded in the 17th century and honors the Tibetan saint Pema Lingpa, who discovered the sacred treasures. Dromchoe is part of Bhutan's national identity and reflects its deep-rooted spiritual beliefs and shared values. The festival symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and features elaborate masked dances called "Cham" performed by monks and lay people. Visitors can participate in activities such as traditional archery competitions, local food tastings and workshops on Bhutanese handicrafts. Connecting with the local community offers a deeper understanding of their customs and traditions. To participate, visitors should plan their visit in February or March, dress appropriately and respect local customs. Photography is allowed, but please ask respectfully before taking someone's photo. Punakha Dromchoe is more than just a festival; it is a celebration of life, community and the enduring spirit of Bhutan.
