MOUNT KAILASH TOUR/TREK WITH PARIKRAMA (KORA)
Located in the heart of the highest mountains on earth, Mount Kailash is a captivating destination that offers a unique blend of history, breathtaking landscapes and the diverse faiths of Asia. Standing tall at an impressive 6,714 meters above sea level, this majestic peak in Tibet has long been considered one of the region's most magical and awe-inspiring sights.
In the past, reaching Mount Kailash was an arduous endeavor due to treacherous roads, political restrictions and the presence of bandits, making it almost inaccessible to travelers. Despite these obstacles, however, the area around Mount Kailash has never left any Westerner feeling isolated or lonely.
The religious significance of Mount Kailash has attracted countless Hindu and Buddhist ascetics, hermits and pilgrims for more than two thousand years. These individuals visit the mountain to witness its grandeur, pray, seek absolution for their sins, perform circumambulation (Parikrama), and engage in rigorous spiritual practices and meditation.
To the south of Mount Kailash lies the foothills of the magnificent Gurla Mandhata, home to two lakes, Man Sarovar and Rakhasa Tal. These lakes have the distinction of having the highest amount of fresh water in the world. Spread over an area of 330 square kilometers, Man Sarovar sits at an altitude of 4,558 meters, which is approximately fifteen meters higher than Rakhasa Tal.
Mount Kailash and Man Sarovar are considered the most sacred of the lands, believed to be the abode of gods and goddesses. Hindus worship it as the abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, while Buddhists see it as the place where Buddha meditated and stayed. The area is said to have been home to the founders of Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism and the Bonpo religion. Located in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, it is a popular pilgrimage site for devotees seeking spiritual liberation from worldly temptations.
Standing at a height of 6714 meters, Mount Kailash is a massive black peak considered to be a symbol of good luck. A 53 km trek around Kailash Parvat is considered to be the most effective way to gather blessings and merit from the deities. Pilgrims believe that in this way they can achieve "Nirvana" - liberation from the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. This belief attracts thousands of devotees from all over the world to make the journey to this holy place.
Lake Manasarovar with its stunning emerald waters is located near Mount Kailash at an altitude of 4580 meters, making it another important pilgrimage site for devotees. The presence of eight monasteries around the lake enhances its beauty and spiritual significance.
