AMA DABLAM EXPEDITION

Mount Ama Dablam earns its nickname as the Matterhorn of the Himalayas. Climbers around the world dream of tackling it. The peak stands close to Mount Everest. It towers over the Imja Valley. The main summit hits 6,812 meters high. A smaller west summit reaches 6,170 meters.

The trip begins with a flight into Lukla. From there, head north on foot. Track the Dudh Koshi River to Namche Bazaar. This spot sits at 3,440 meters. Namche Bazaar serves as the heart of Sherpa life. It offers a prime spot to adjust to the altitude.

Spend two nights resting in Namche. Your body needs time to adapt. Then hike two days to Pangboche. That village lies at 3,930 meters. Stay overnight if you like. Cross the Dudh Koshi River next. Begin the ascent to Ama Dablam Base Camp. The camp rests in a grassy meadow by a stream. It hovers just under 5,000 meters. At base camp, settle into large tents. They include beds, a dining space, and a lounge area. Showers and toilets are available too.

Skilled guides at camp prepare you well. They go over techniques and inspect your equipment. Practice climbs at various levels. When weather clears and you're set, push for the summit. The final push lasts three or four days. The route sets up three camps on the slope. At times, summit straight from Camp 2. Summit day feels magical. Time your arrival for sunrise. Soak in the views and your achievement. Then descend with care. Rest at a lower camp that night. The following day, drop back to base camp. Take a shower and unwind there. Trek on to Lukla. Catch a flight home to Kathmandu. Raise a cold beer to toast your success!
