Arrival at Paro and transfer to hotel
The road offers breathtaking views of Mt. Everest and other famous Himalayan mountains in Bhutan. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by a Bhutanese friend from Makalu Adventure, followed by lunch and a relaxing afternoon.
2Paro Sightseeing
The morning tour includes a visit to Druhyal Dzong, a ruined fort 16 km from Paro town, which has historical significance in Bhutanese history. It was where Bhutan defeated the Tibetan invasion and drove them back. The tour also includes a visit to the Kyichu Lhakhang, a Buddhist temple built by the Tibetan King Songten Gompo in 659 AD. Lunch is served in the town of Paro, followed by a visit to the National Museum, which was converted from a watchtower to a museum in 1646.
3Paro-A day excursion to Taktshang
Visit the Taktsng Monastery, located not far from Paro town, atop a 4,000-foot-tall granite rock. The monastery is believed to have been the meditation place of Guru Padma Sambhava, the second Buddha in Bhutan. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the Taktsng canteen and the hike takes about 4 hours. Overnight at a hotel in Paro.
4Paro - an excursion to Haa valley and drive back via Chellela pass
Explore Haa Valley, a recently opened tourist town in the extreme kingdom, and return from Chellela Pass to enjoy snow-capped mountains and rhododendron blossoms. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Chellela Pass and walk to Chellela Nunnery. Overnight at Paro Hotel.
5Paro-Thimphu
The itinerary includes a visit to Simtokha Dzong, one of Bhutan's oldest forts, built in 1629 AD and home to monistic schools. The next stop is Tashichho Dzong, which houses the central monastic body and living quarters. After lunch, visitors can visit the Memorial Chorten, a large stupa commemorating the third king of Bhutan, and drive to Sangeygang for a stunning view of the Thimpu Valley. They can also visit the woodworking and painting schools, the Crafts Trade Center and the National Library, where old manuscripts are preserved.
6Thimphu-Wangdue Phodrang
The drive to Punakha, located 3150 m above the Thimphu Valley, offers stunning views of the snow-capped mountains of the Eastern Himalayas and the Gasa Dzong. The road passes green countryside and two rivers, Phochu and Mochu, with Punkha Dzong, Je Khenpo's winter residence and the district office. Lunch is provided at Punakha Hotel, then drive to Wangdue Phodrang and overnight at Wangdue Phodrang.
7Wangdue Phodrang-Phubjikha
Then drive to Wangdue Phodrang, visit the town and Wangdue Phodrang Dzong. Lunch at the hotel in Wangdue Phodrang. Afternoon: Drive to Phubjikha (Gangdue) Valley where you can see the endangered Black Nudist Crane bird. Overnight: Hotel in Phubjikha.
8Thimphu-Paro
In the morning, transfer to the Tango Monastery, a full-day trip. Picnic lunch at the foot of Tango Monastery and afternoon transfer to Paro. Overnight: Hotel in Paro
9Paro International Airport for departure
Then depart for Paro International Airport early in the morning and your Bhutanese friends from Makalu Adventure will see you off on your way home.
