CHULU WEST PEAK CLIMBING

Imagine beginning your adventure on the Annapurna Circuit, a renowned 200-kilometer trail that circles the Annapurna massif. You traverse lush valleys, navigate high passes like Thorong La at 5,416 meters, and encounter local villages with stone homes and prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. After several days of consistent walking, you divert towards the base camp of Chulu West. The peak itself is located in a secluded area of the range, away from busy trails. It was formed millions of years ago due to tectonic movements that uplifted the Himalayas, resulting in sharp ridges and ice fields that challenge your abilities.
As you ascend, the rewards are breathtaking views. Snow-covered giants like Dhaulagiri at 8,167 meters, Nilgiri at 7,061 meters, and Annapurna I at 8,091 meters dominate your sight. On clear days, you can even see Manaslu and the distant peaks of Everest. These spectacular views occur during breaks on the trail or at the summit, where the air is fresh and the horizon seems endless.
Remember, this journey requires genuine fitness. You need strong legs for steep ascents and good lungs for the thin air above 5,000 meters. It is more challenging than some other peaks in the region, such as Island Peak, due to the longer approach and unpredictable weather. Altitude sickness can strike quickly here, so groups typically maintain a slow pace to acclimatize. Most expeditions last between 18 to 22 days, starting and ending in Kathmandu after completing the circuit.
