LHOTSE SOUTH FACE EXPEDITION

Lhotse South is known as one of the most impressive and challenging mountaineering routes above 8000m and has gained a reputation as one of the most dangerous climbs over the years. The south face of Lhotse has witnessed only a handful of successful ascents. This expedition takes 56 days and takes the most challenging routes to reach the fourth highest peak in the world, after Mt Everest, Mt. K2 and Mt. Kangchenjunga. The ascent of Mount Lhotse, which stands at an impressive altitude of 8,516 m above sea level, via the south face is known for its challenging route. Join our team and experience the breathtaking landscape and exciting adventure of conquering Lhotse South. Lhotse is a massif that is part of the Everest range and consists of three peaks: Lhotse (8,516 m), Lhotse Shar (8,383 m) and Lhotse Middle (8,414 m).

The name "Lhotse" comes from Tibetan, where it translates as "South". The majestic peak of Lhotse (8,516 m) lies on the border between the Khumbu region of Nepal and China. It forms an integral part of the Everest massif and boasts a distinctive and vast face. What sets Lhotse South apart in terms of its dramatic and dangerous nature is its remarkable 3.2 km ascent over a horizontal distance of 2.25 km. This makes Lhotse South the steepest face of its size on the entire planet.

The normal route to Lhotse has been conquered by many climbers, but the southern route presents a formidable challenge due to the treacherous conditions. Climbers face a massive 3,300 m (11,000 ft) wall with snow, rocks, avalanches and high winds. Renowned climbers such as Reinhold Messner and Jerzy Kukuczka attempted the south face but tragically failed.

In 1984, a Czech-Slovak team achieved the first successful ascent of Lhotse Shar via its south face after several attempts.

The south face of Lhotse is known for its harsh weather conditions, icy terrain and rocky obstacles, making it a rare ascent. The expedition includes sailing the challenging face of Lhotse with unpredictable weather, which is considered the most dangerous part of the climb.
