Arrive Paro by Druk Air
Druk air BAe 146-100 series, the only national carrier, will fly to Paro. The flight offers a beautiful view of the mountains and the countryside. Upon arrival and visa formalities have been completed, you will be received by our members. Afternoon/evening free. Overnight at a hotel in Paro.
2Explore Paro
Today's full day Paro Valley tour includes a visit to ti Ta Dzong (National Museum), Rinpung Dzong and Kyichu Lhakhang. Overnight at a hotel in Paro.
3Paro - Shana [17 Kms, 5/6 Hours]
The trek starts from Drukgyel Dzong at an altitude of 2580m with a short descent along a wide road. The trail climbs gently and passes through well-maintained rice terraces and rice paddies. The route later enters an area of โโapple orchards and forests. Soon the valley widens and you reach the Gunyitsawa military post at 2810 m. This is the last stop before Tibet. At 2870 m, just beyond Sharma Zampa, there are several good campsites in meadows surrounded by trees.
4Shana - Soi Thangthangkha [20 Km, 7/8 Hours]
The trail again follows the Pa Chu (Paro River), rising and falling through pine, oak and spruce forests. After crossing the bridge towards the left side of the river, a hot lunch will be served. After lunch, a climb along the river through rhododendron forests and finally crossing the bridge again to the camp at an altitude of 3750 m.
5Soi Thangthangkha - Jangothang [19 Km, 7/8 Hours]
The road climbs for a while until you reach a military camp. Then follow the river above the tree line for stunning views of the surrounding peaks. A hot lunch will be served at the yak herders camp. A short walk into the valley takes you to the camp at Jangothang at an altitude of 4000 m. From there you have a wonderful view of Mount Chomolhari and Jichu Drake.

7Jangothang - Lingshi [18 Km, 7/8 Hours]
The train goes downstream for half an hour and crosses the bridge to the right. Begin the climb to the first ridge with breathtaking views of Chomolhari, Jichu Drake and Tsrim Khang. Then go into the valley, almost flat for a while, until the climb to the la pass at 4700 m. After the pass, it is a gradual descent to Lingshi Camp with a panoramic view of the peaks and Langshi Dzong. Camo at an altitude of 4000m.
8Lingshi - Chebisa [10 Km, 5/6 Hours]
Continue ahead for Lingshi Dzong, perched on top of a hill with breathtaking views of green hills, winding river and magnificent peaks. It's an easy day and a pleasant walk through the villages and the yak herders camp. After lunch, a short walk will take you to the village of Chebisa. Camping by the stream at an altitude of 3850m.
9Chebisa - Shomuthang [17 Kms, 6/7 Hours]
Today's day begins with a challenging climb up the ridge to the Gubu la pass at 4500m, which takes almost four hours. After the pass, descend to the lunch stop, through rhododendron bushes. In the afternoon, follow the path up and down, after crossing a stream, through rhododendron forests and a camp of yak herders. Sometimes you can see flocks of blue sheep. Camping at an altitude of 4250m.
10Shomuthang - Robluthang [18 Kms, 6/7 Hours]
The trek begins with the ascent to the Jari la pass at an altitude of 4700m. Then descend to the Tasharijathang Valley, the summer home of the rare Himalayan takin (Bhutan's national animal). From here we may have to cross the stream as most of the time the footbridge is under water. After crossing the stream to the left, the trail climbs to the top to the Robluthang campsite at an altitude of 4200 m.
11Robluthang - Limithang [19 Kms, 7/8 Hours]
It is a long climb to the Shinje la pass (altitude 4900m). The view of the mountains from the road is stunning. After descending to Lemithang. The path is quite narrow and you may have to cross the stream again and get wet. The last part of the trek is very interesting with a view of Mt. Peak of Gangchey Ta. Arrival at the campsite at an altitude of 4100m.
12Limithang - Laya [10 Kms, 4/5 Hours]
You wake up in the morning with a magnificent view of Gangchey Ta peak in front of you. The walk to Laya is very pleasant with wonderful views. You will pass through the camp forest, full of moss and singing birds. Arrival in the village of Laya, the second highest settlement in the country, at an altitude of 3800 m.
13Rest Day at Laya
Explore the surroundings of the village. You can go and visit any of the houses in the area. Traditional Bhutanese hospitality is extended even to a complete stranger and a cup of tea and Chang (a local drink) is always offered. The people in this village are very interesting, especially the women. They wear conical bamboo hats decorated with turquoise and silver ornaments. In the evening, witness a cultural program (dance) performed by village girls around the campfire and if you have a strong stomach, enjoy the local alcohol (ara & chang).
14Laya - Chamsa [19 Kms, 8/9 Hours]
Descend to the military camp and join the Mo Chu (Punakha's mother river). Follow the river until you cross a bridge. It's up and down several times over the bridge, through juniper and fir forests to the campsite in Chamse at an altitude of 3800 m.
15Chamsa - Gasa Tshachu [14 Kms, 6/7 Hours]
Go about half a house across flat ground to Bele la Pass. It's downhill all the way to Gasa Tshach. Lunch in the village of Gasa at an altitude of 2700m. After lunch visit to village and Dzong. The Dzong was built in the 17th century by the first religious king, Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, to protect the valley from Tibetan raiders. Then continue to Gasa Tshach (hot spring) to the campsite at an altitude of 2200m.
16Gasa Tshachu Rest Day
It is a place to rest after a long journey. Enjoy a hot bath and local beer available for purchase here.
17Gasa Tshachu - Damji [18 Kms, 5/6 Hours]
The path continues to rise and fall through densely forested areas and wild orchids. There are leeches in this area so be careful. Camping near the village at an altitude of 2400m.
18Damji - Tashithang - Punakha[16 Kms, 5/6 Hours]
It is the last day of trekking. Continue along the Mo Chu River through a heavily forested area until you reach Tashithang at an altitude of 1,620 m. At Punakha (15 km), Connecting Horizons Adventures transport will be waiting for you, which will travel all the way along the river. Overnight at a hotel in Punakha.
19Punakha - Thimphu
Morning tour of Punakha Valley and Wangdiphodrang with visit to Dzong and local market. In the afternoon transfer to Thimphu. Overnight at a hotel in Thimphu.
20Explore Thimphu
Thimphu city tour today. Visiting Chorten Memorial, Tashichhodzong, National Library, School of Painting, Institute of Traditional Medicine, Handicrafts Center. Overnight at a hotel in Thimphu.
21Thimphu - Paro
Morning for shopping and free time. After lunch drive to Paro visiting Simtokha Dzong en route. Overnight at a hotel in Paro.
22Departure from Paro
After early breakfast in the hotel drive to Paro airport for flight to onward destination
